VBAC
What is a VBAC? Vaginal Birth after Cesarean section. VBAC’s are possible and we know of many woman who have had them. This is an amazing story of a home VBAC birth. It is possible!
ICAN is the International Cesarean Awareness Network. Find their incredible site here. It has amazing information about Cesarean and VBAC and the policies around VBAC in hospitals. ICAN’s VBAC Policy Survey, originally conducted in May 2005 and updated in January 2009, surveyed a total of 2878 hospitals. 1654 hospitals “allow” VBAC, 824 have an official ban, and 400 have a de facto ban in place. Between formal and de facto bans, women are not able to access VBAC at over 40% of hospitals in the U.S.
The biggest key to a successful VBAC is to find a support system. This is what we love so much about home birth. The support that you receive from the midwife that you choose is key. I am familiar with so many successful VBAC’s. Google VBAC and you will see that so many people have great stories of their success.
